Sinamay, made from the stalks of the abaca tree and woven in the Philippines, has become a popular material for blocking hats and trims since its introduction to the millinery world in the 1990s. Known for its strength and durability, sinamay is often pre-stiffened during manufacturing to make the blocking process easier.
